
SGCMS FFA competed in their first contest of the year, the State Meat Identification at Wilson County Fairgrounds. The team finished in 5th place within the middle school category and Harper Steinly took 4th place in individual rankings.

Students in Agriculture have been learning about the many different products that come from corn. Last week, the students made plastic from corn starch and corn oil.





Santa's Workshop starts tomorrow and runs throughout this week.



Students in Mrs. Malone’s 6th grade Career Awareness class were visited by Mr. Bret McMillion who owns McMillion Construction, McMillion Plumbing, and MWP. Mr. McMillion talked to students about his career journey from real estate to construction to entrepreneurship. He is the father of 6th grade student, Cason McMillion. SGCMS is so thankful for parents taking their time to teach students about potential career paths.




It's time to dance! Join us this Saturday for an evening of fun music and dance in the SGCMS Blue Gym. Admission is $5 at the door, dress is casual! 5th/6th from 4-6PM and 7th/8th from 7-9PM.


Officers from SGCHS CTSO (Career Technical Student Organizations) spoke to 8th grade students about the potential CTSO clubs they can join when they enter high school in 2025. The clubs represented were FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), FFA (Future Farmers of America), and HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). Thank you to SGCHS for taking the time to welcome potential members!





SGCMS is thankful to Owens Corning for their support of the CTE Career Exploration program. The HR Department has been so helpful by helping with Mock Interviews for 8th grade students and speaking to Career Exploration classes. Recently, Maia Trammell, James Wimer, Julie Hill, and Colin Cribbs visited 6th grades classes to share about their careers at Owens Corning. Maia is the Senior Human Resources Leader at the Owens Corning Jackson, TN facility and she is the mother of 6th grades student, Zoey Day. James Wimer is the Environmental Health and Safety Leader. Julie Hill is the Senior Engineering Specialist. Colin Cribbs is the Furnace Engineering Development Specialist. Speakers discussed careers in business, human resources, engineering, environmental health, and human resources.





Our next house competition day is scheduled for this Friday. Students are encouraged to wear their house shirts on that day.

Career Exploration students at South Gibson had the opportunity to learn about careers in the Pharmacy/Health Science career cluster. Students were visited by Dr. Kim Jones, who is the Dean of Pharmacy at Union University. Dr. Jones is the mother of 6th grade student, Lainey Jones.

Golf tryouts will be Thursday, December 5th at Humboldt Golf and Country Club from 3:30-5:00. Students must have an active physical and be in grades 6-8 in order to be able to tryout. Please email Coach Dale Martin (dmartin@gcssd.org) if interested in trying out.

Please join SGCMS as we say "Thank You" to our veterans on Veterans Day! We were honored to have so many veterans in attendance today as we honored their service and sacrifice to our great nation!











The SGCMS Veteran's Day program is this coming Monday at 1:00 PM. We want to invite all veterans to join us and also encourage our faculty and students to wear red, white and blue for our program.

Tomorrow is House Group Day at SGCMS. All students who wear their house group shirts will score points for their house.
