
From the School Nurse Clinic: We have seen an increase in the number of students with elevated pulse rates and elevated blood pressures due to drinking energy drinks at school. Parents need to be aware of the health issues this can cause. Energy Drinks are not allowed to be brought to school. Please make sure your child is aware of the rule.

SGC Lady Hornets defeated Huntingdon in a 5-3 thriller for the last regular season game of the year. Finishing the regular season with a 14-3 record.
Eliza Whittemore pitched the complete game allowing only 1 earned run and striking out 3.
Kynleigh Reece hit the a two run homer over the left center field fence to break at 1-1 tie in the 3rd.
The Lady Hornets next game will be in the district tournament coming up next Saturday in Milan.


Students from Mrs. Malone's Career Advising and Planning class had the opportunity to observe General Sessions Court in Humboldt, TN on Wednesday, September, 13th. Judge Bradley Owens presided over cases and spent time speaking with 8th graders about his job and other careers in this field.

Color guard is a great opportunity for students to be involved with the band and we would love to have a large color guard for parades this year! Color guard clinics will be held on September 25th and 26th with auditions happening on September 28th. Students will stay from 3-5 on all 3 days. Any student who is interested may speak with Mr. Bateman at any time.

The SGCMS fall candy fundraiser is now underway. Students brought home a permission form to sell on Friday. Students who return the form tomorrow will be given their first box. Various prizes and prize levels are available. Thank you so much for your willingness to help in making the fall fundraiser a success.

The Football Homecoming Dance will be held Saturday, September 9th at the MS Cafeteria. Parents must sign their child in at the door if a permission form hasn’t been submitted. Entry is $5. Food, Drinks, Glow Bracelets for sale. NO PHONES. Pick up will be at the gym parking lot, organized like car-rider lines. 5/6th Grade Dance: 4-6pm. 7/8th Grade Dance: 7/9pm. Parents – if you wish to volunteer, we are needing volunteers for the 7/8th Grade dance. Please reach out to Chelsea Caraway at carawayc@gcssd.org if you’re able to help.

College Application & Exploration Month Dress-up Days:
Friday, September 1st- students should represent their favorite colleges by wearing your favorite college hat and/or shirt or favorite college colors.
Friday September 8th- our future is so bright we need to wear shades-wear your sunglasses and neon colors to represent your bright future
Friday September 15th-School Spirit Day- Wear SGCMS colors to celebrate all the hard work we are doing in middle school to prepare for our futures!
Friday September 22nd- Interview Day- Dress for success by wearing an outfit you might wear for a college scholarship or job interview
Friday September 29th- Show who you want to be: Dress for the career you want when you enter the workforce

If your child plays a school sport, we encourage you to support funding the teams’ expenses by purchasing a Booster Club Membership.
The team with the most parent members will be recognized at the Pep Rally.
Membership forms can be submitted through Thursday. Ask your coach for the membership form or visit Booster Club Facebook page for a copy.

Due to the excessive heat, tonight's SGCMS football game at Union City has been canceled.

SGCMS is looking to restart its school PTO. We will have our first meeting to gauge interest on Monday, August 28th at 6:00 PM in the library. If you are interested in being a part of the PTO we would love for you to join us Monday evening.
