8th grade students in Career Advising & Planning were exposed to careers in the Human Resources career path this past Friday. Maia Trammell, from Owens Corning, spoke to students about the various facets of HR responsibility and different career options. She also talked with students about the importance of interviewing, resumes, and internships.





Students grades 5-8 who are interesting to trying out for the golf team need to sign up by this Friday in the main office. Details concerning the tryout date(s) will be released in the near future.

We have several 6th grade students who have not handed in their permission slips for the CTE tour at SGCHS tomorrow. If your child failed to hand this in, you can print off an additional copy using this image.


The 7th and 8th grade will have after school practice from 3-5 on the following dates: November 7th, 14th, 16th, and 27th.

All basketball homecoming mum order forms and payment are due tomorrow. The cost for a homecoming mum is $12.

Sixth grade students will be going to the high school Tuesday morning (11/7) to tour the CTE classes. A field trip/permission form is being sent home today and needs to be returned by Monday. Only students who return this form will be able to attend. They will leave right after announcements so students will not be able to call for a form on Tuesday morning. Again, these must be turned in by Monday to attend.

6th and 7th grade students in Career Explorations were visited by the Flight Nurse from AirEvac 143 yesterday. Nurse Jodi Moore, Paramedic Chad Moore, and Pilot Fred Myers took time out of their busy days to expose middle school students to 3 different careers. Students were able to see the helicopter land and take off, explore the AirEvac helicopter itself, and talk with all 3 visitors about their careers.





SGCMS’s Veterans Day program will be held on 11/10 at 1:15. We welcome all veterans to join us on this special day as we celebrate their dedication to our country. A reception will be held afterwards in their honor.

The 2024-25 School Year calendar options have been drafted and will be approved at the December School Board Meeting. We would like to know your opinion on which calendar option works best for your family.

Medivac will be coming this morning to speak to our CTE classes. If you hear of the Medivac helicopter landing at the middle school that is why.

Bus 59 (Keri Johnson) is having mechanical issues this morning. Waiting on spare. Running at least 15 minutes behind schedule.

Our next PTO meeting will be Tuesday, November 7th at 6:00 PM in the school library. At this meeting we will elect officers and begin discussing ways the PTO can assist SGCMS moving forward.

Reminder that middle school students do not wear Halloween costumes to school tomorrow.

Congrats to Ms. Kristi Sorrell for being selected as the 2023-2024 SGCMS Teacher of the Year! We are grateful for her continued dedication to our students and all that she does to prepare our students for math prior to their transition to high school.


All Band and Color Guard Parents! Your student was sent home with information about the Chili Supper Fundraiser today, including what item they are responsible for supplying. If you do not receive this, please email Mr. Bateman at rbateman@gcssd.org and he will send all the information to you.
If you are not in the Remind group, please join, as this is the band's primary form of communication. Mr. Bateman will also email Remind instructions if you need them.

Ms. Mains and Mr. Stevens homeroom students were treated to McDonald's for lunch today for having the highest averages on their recent CASE test in the 7th grade.






Students in the 7th grade Career Exploration class were visited by speakers from Centennial Bank today. Renee Morris, Misty Sharp, and Ryan Barnes spent time discussing time management, interviewing skills, goal setting, and jobs in the Business career cluster.
