Congratulations to Ms. Jennifer Chandler for being chosen as our 2020-21 Teacher of the Year for Kenton Elementary School! Here is a little about Ms. Jennifer: I grew up right in this community and always had the desire to be a teacher. My grandmother taught English for over 30 years at Kenton High School, and I wanted to try to make a difference in children’s lives as she always did. I graduated high school from Gibson County and then UT Martin. I started my teaching career in Rutherford, teaching 3rd grade. I taught there for 14 years and then moved to Kenton to begin teaching the first 4th grade class at the new Kenton School. Kenton is home to me, so I wanted to come back home. I have been teaching a total of 28 years in GCSSD. During this time, I have taught 3rd, 4th, 1st, and 2nd grades. I have been married to my husband for 28 years. We have 3 children and a new grandson. I love to spend time with my family and rocking my sweet grandbaby.

It's School Board Appreciation Week & KES would like to thank all GCSSD board members for their service. We are especially partial to our very own, John Campbell. We appreciate the time and energy spent to ensure our students are receiving the best education possible. Born and raised in Kenton, TN. Both parents, John and Brenda Campbell, worked for the GCSSD. John is a 2013 graduate from the Physical Therapist Assistant program at West Kentucky Community and Technical College where he earned his Associates Degree. He has been a licensed PTA for 7 years and is currently the Rehab Director at a skilled nursing facility. He is married to Heather Campbell and together they have 3 children, Kailey, Olivia, and Cason. John stated: "I view my position on the school board as being a member of a very important decision making team that listens to our constituents concerns, continues to look for and find ways to improve our school system and makes sure that our students are provided with a school system that will have them prepared for success upon graduation." Thanks for all you do, John!

The Tennessee Department of Health has released updated guidance on releasing cases and contacts from isolation and quarantine regarding COVID-19. Please click the link to review the full guidance. The list below is a summary of the changes: NON-HOUSEHOLD CONTACTS Non-household contacts must be quarantined after exposure to a case, regardless of whether the case was symptomatic. TDH and CDC recommend a 14-day quarantine. Acceptable alternatives to a 14-day quarantine include: • after Day 10 (returning to regular activities on Day 11) without testing if the contact does not have symptoms. • after Day 7 (returning to regular activities on Day 8) if the contact does not have symptoms and if they test negative by a PCR or antigen (rapid) test collected after Day 5. Continue to self-monitor for symptoms and wear a face mask through Day 14. • If they go the route of getting a negative PCR or antigen (rapid) test, we will need proof of that test to allow them back before the 10 days are up. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GCParentEval Greetings from our School District’s Farm to School Planning Team! We are thankful for all you are doing during this unprecedented time. We know asking you to do one more thing is not ideal, but we have an important request to fulfill the objectives of our USDA Farm to School Planning Grant. Will you please take three (3) minutes to complete the linked questionnaire? The purpose of this questionnaire is to assess current farm to school programming and plan for future project development. Your input is important to us and vital to completing a thorough planning process. Based upon the information gathered from you and other groups, we will produce a Gibson County Farm to School Action Plan to serve as an implementation guide for the next several years. Thank you in advance.

According to guidelines set forth by the TN Department of Health, COVID-19 testing refers to SARS-CoV-2 PCR. Negative antigen (rapid tests), and antibody tests are not approved for return to school. We have been instructed NOT to accept a Rapid negative COVID test for school return. Notify your healthcare provider that we do not accept Rapid COVID tests. Also, diagnoses of respiratory and viral conditions such as allergic rhinitis, seasonal allergies, upper respiratory tract infection (URI), pneumonia, pharyngitis without positive strep test, etc., DO NOT exclude the diagnosis of COVID-19 and DO NOT justify return to school.

We want to notify you that a student at Kenton School has tested positive for COVID- 19. The student immediately began the isolation process. The student has not been in contact with any other students; therefore, there has been no risk of exposure to any other students. The classroom and common areas are being sanitized and deep cleaned using CDC approved chemicals and protocol. We will continue to do everything in our power to ensure the safest environment possible while providing continuity of education to our students.
